THE ELDER COMES TO BATH

THE ELDER COMES TO BATH

Mike Robinson, owner of the Good Food Guide 2020 award-winning The Woodsman in Stratford on Avon, and part owner of Michelin-starred, Gastropub of the Year 2020 The Harwood Arms is to open a new restaurant next month.

The Elder restaurant and bar is to open in the historic centre of Bath on September 11th and sits within the new Hotel Indigo Bath.  The hotel and restaurant have been constructed within a beautiful honey coloured Georgian Terrace after a multi-million pound major restoration project.

The 60 seater restaurant will feature authentic, honest and timeless British cooking, created by restaurateur Mike Robinson and Group Head Chef Gavin Edney, with a focus on sustainability, seasonality and locally-sourced and wild produce.

The Elder has a cosy bar offering well-made classic cocktails, carefully selected wines and local ciders.  There is a large terrace on South Parade for outdoor drinking and dining.

A separate members club area will be opening next year.

The Elder restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner with an a la carte menu enhanced by a beautifully curated wine list.

The Elder offers a series of interlinked rooms set within welcoming historic spaces, each with its own charming character, and all under one roof.  Designed by Fettle, the interiors are contemporary yet sympathetic to its Georgian roots. There are gardens and a butchery too.

“This will be very much a neighborhood restaurant,” says Mike Robinson. “We have put a lot of thought behind every element of the service to create a warm, relaxing spot with excellent food that’s tasty as hell!”

The front of house team is led by General Manager Paul Halliwell who was involved in the launch of The Woodsman, and was previously GM at Lutyens Restaurant, and before that at Typing Room and London House.

Heading up the team of chefs, Gavin Edney will be bringing his love for using Britain’s natural larder to every seasonal dish.  He will be using fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs grown in The Elder’s garden; wild game, prepared in the restaurants’ butchery and provided by Mike Robinson, and sharing his passion for fish fresh from the British coast.

Gavin honed his skills at some of the UK’s top restaurants.  Before joining The Woodsman and The Elder as Group Head Chef, he was Head Chef at André Garrett at Cliveden and has worked at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, and with Galvin Restaurants.
