Scotland manager Gordon Strachan was among a host of top names from the sporting world who gathered at Spain’s La Manga Club to help raise around €20,000 for under-privileged children in South America this month.
Strachan joined the likes of FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and ex-Spanish tennis star Javier Sanchez Vicario in raising money for the Alda Foundation – which helps educate poor youngsters in Paraguay – during a week-long sporting extravaganza at the resort.
The Scotland boss took time out from his busy schedule to oversee a junior coaching session and match for budding football stars as part of his role as an ambassador for La Manga Club.
The fundraising football event was one of a number of charity family activities that the award-winning venue staged from July 31 to August 5 as part of its Alda Charity Week.
Guests and residents also had the chance to take part in tennis and golf family fun days, with the fundraising week being brought to a spectacular climax with a glittering Alda gala dinner, where an audience of 250 dignitaries and guests including Bartomeu and Sanchez Vicario were treated to a Cuban-themed moonlit gala dinner including live music, and a charity raffle and auction.
The Alda Charity Week was part of a packed Olympian menu of activities and choice available to families at La Manga Club this summer.
As well as the resort hosting its popular White Night evenings again – where guests had the chance to experience the spirit of Ibiza with moonlit beach dinner parties at the resort’s own Mediterranean cove – La Manga Club also staged the official FC Barcelona Football Junior Club Camp for the third year running last month and the Michael Owen Rugby Academy earlier this month.
In addition, there are also a wide range of sporting academies for guests of all ages to enjoy this summer including tuition packages at its world-renowned tennis centre and Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only such facility in mainland Spain.
