Sealy and Vintage Clarets “on the ball” at charity football tournament
  • Leading bed manufacturer’s team, the Vintage Clarets, compete at Furniture Makers’ Cup for second year running
  • Sealy sponsors charity five-a-side tournament hosted in aid of charity for furnishing industry

Bed manufacturer, Sealy, supported those taking part in the annual Furniture Maker’s Football Tournament at the Powerleague Centre in Derby last week, with its very own team of former professionals, the Vintage Clarets competing on the day.
Hosted in aid of the Furniture Makers’ Company, the charity for the furnishing industry, the tournament has become a key date in the bed industry calendar and Sealy was the main sponsor for the fourth year running.

The Clarets performed well, and helped to create an atmosphere of fun on the day, sharing tips and advice with those competing. However, despite a strong performance, the final consisted of retailer, BrightHouse, versus supplier, Welcom Furniture, with the latter claiming the trophy after a hard-fought game. Andy Lunt, goalkeeper for BrightHouse, was awarded ‘Player of the Tournament.’

All proceeds raised will go to the Furniture Makers’ Company which fosters the craft of furniture making, marketing and retailing in the UK. The charity also helps to encourage new talent into the industry with its extensive education programme working with young professionals to create a powerful workforce for the future.

Holly Venning, Brand Marketing Manager at Sealy said: “The tournament was certainly the best one yet! It’s always a great day and it’s fantastic to see so many people from across the industry getting involved. We’re delighted that the Clarets took part again this year, they definitely had a lot of fun! We’re as ever, extremely pleased to support such a worthwhile charity which does a lot for the industry.”

John Deary from the Vintage Clarets said: “It was great to be invited back to the five-a-side tournament again this year and we certainly had a blast! We’re always keen to support our shirt sponsor, Sealy and of course, help to raise money for a worthy cause. We’re looking forward to competing again next year.”
