Delphina hotels & resorts Launches ‘Mermaid Magic’ after Local Filming of Latest Disney Movie. New Offer includes Mermaid ‘Sightings’ in the Sea, SPA Massages in Water and Bespoke Boat Trips, also marking their 30th Anniversary

Delphina hotels & resorts are making a splash for Summer 2023 which marks their 30th anniversary, traditionally celebrated with pearls, by offering guests a touch of ‘mermaid magic’ to note the successful release of the new live action The Little Mermaid movie which was filmed nearby. The new Mermaid Magic offer includes unique sea and water-based SPA and beauty treatments, mermaid themed kids club activities and an adventurous new boat excursion.

Delphina guests can enjoy ‘part of that world’ created by the new Disney film and explore the scenic sandy beaches, natural rocky shores and glittering aquamarine waters that feature in the blockbuster movie. John Myhre, Production Designer for the live action The Little Mermaid said of Sardinia: “The water is the bluest water, and the rock formations are just the most beautiful I have ever seen. We found Sardinia in our dreams before we ever went there.” Film fanatics can now get close to the action at Delphina by staying in spacious suites featuring cinematic sea-views, private pools and solariums fit for any prince or princess.  They can also experience encounters with on-site mermaids, themed immersive experiences and visits to the famous locations to make their own movie-worthy moments.

Little ones who visit Delphina’s Mini Club will be delighted with a ‘real life’ sighting of a mermaid who will emerge in the sea right before their eyes, flipping her fin. This will be followed by biscuits with mermaid tails that they can decorate with coloured icing as well as mermaid tail cake later in the day with themed decorations. In the evening children can sing and dance with an animator dressed as a mermaid and play themed games with an animator dressed as Triton. There will also be a special kids dress up session with mermaid dresses, braided hair and sea-themed nail painting to make them feel like a mermaid for the night. On-site Delphina photographers will be present throughout the day to capture precious memories for the little mermaids and mermen to remember forever.

The 5* Resort Valle dell’Erica and 5* Hotel Marinedda, located on the same stunning coastline as the film, will both offer “The Little Mermaid Signature’ SPA package including various thalassotherapy treatments (ancient healing practice with seawater) using seaweed, minerals and elements closest to the marine environment. The Little Mermaid Signature SPA treatments will include:

  • Prelude Marin: scrub with salt and sea mud – re-mineralize and stimulate cell renewal (50 mins)

For those wanting to get closer to what is ‘under the sea’ Delphina guests can book a full day on a Sailors Power Boat, a voyage fit for Captain Eric, from Valle dell’Erica. This excursion on a brand new Maxi RIB includes visits to many of the locations where filming took place and key scenes were captured, including Capo Testa, Sirenetta beach (Rena Majore), Monti Russu.

Disney set the film on the north coast of Sardinia, between the Asinara national park and Golfo Aranci, up to the protected marine area of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo” – says Nevina Satta, CEO of the Sardinia Film Commission Foundation, who assisted the production – “From the beach where Ariel emerges, to Eric’s Castle, to the underwater world where his family of origin lives, the immense naturalistic treasure of Sardinia is revealed: 3 national parks, accounting for about 30 thousand hectares, five marine protected areas and 128 “Natura 2000” sites, some of them celebrated by Unesco.”

Elena Muntoni, Brand Manager for Delphina hotels & resorts commented: “We are delighted that the recent release and success of The Little Mermaid has driven a new interest in the many ‘treasures untold’ of Sardinia. Just recently EasyJet reported a 216% surge* increase in holiday searches for Sardinia as movie fans inspired by the big screen want to discover the real life natural wonders that we have to offer. To mark our 30th anniversary this year, Delphina will offer guests magic ‘Mermaid’ moments in unique and unforgettable settings with picture-perfect natural surroundings, as reflected in the film. From wellness and SPA, romantic retreats or family getaways we can set the scene for any fairy tale escape.”

: Beaches at Valle dell’Erica and The Archipelago of La Maddalena which Delphina guests can explore by boat

This year, Delphina celebrates turning 30, founded by Salvatore Peru and Francesco Muntoni (President of the group). The family aimed to create a welcoming and authentic environment where respect for the environment, the enhancement of Sardinian craftsmanship and the promotion of local food were at the heart of the group’s philosophy.

The hotels, villas and resorts were created through the selection of strategic positions in front of dream beaches, choosing fascinating locations on the Northern Sardinian coast that fit harmoniously into the greenery, offering continuous immersions among the scents of the Mediterranean scrub and breath-taking views of the blue sea of Northern Sardinia. The Delphina collection houses twelve 5* and 4* hotels, exclusive residences, 6 SPAs and prestige villas, all surrounded by rich green Mediterranean parks overlooking the sea between the Costa Smeralda, the Archipelago of La Maddalena and the Gulf of Asinara, in the localities of Cannigione, Palau, Santa Teresa Gallura, Isola Rossa and Badesi.

Sardinia, fondly known as the ‘Caribbean of Europe’, rivals’ long-haul destinations for British holidaymakers who can experience green, luxury and authentic holidays with ‘epic landscapes’ (as described by the movie producers), all just a two-hour flight from the UK.
