The Savoy Educational Trust strengthens Board of Trustees with new appointments

Independent grant giving charitable trust The Savoy Educational Trust, has appointed two new members to its Board of Trustees to help it fulfil its vision of advancing and developing education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry.

Professor Peter A Jones, Director of international hospitality management consultancy Wentworth Jones and Stephen Lowy, CEO of Anglo Educational Services and The Residence Apartments, have joined existing trustees Robert Davis, Howard Field, Dr Sally Messenger and David Taylor.

Contributing to the board, using their extensive experience and knowledge of the hospitality industry and education landscape, Jones and Lowy will work with other Board members to steer the trust forward and continue its work in awarding grants to hospitality-related projects.

Professor Peter A Jones started his career in the army and after retiring from his position of Commander of the Army Catering Service, he moved into higher education. His academic appointments included Head of Schools in Bournemouth and the University of West London and he is currently Chair of the Professional Review Panel of the Institute of Hospitality; Chair of Gate College Academic Council in Nepal; Board Advisor of the International Association of Hotel Schools (EUHOFA) and Dean of the eHotelier Academy.

Steve Lowy has been connected with hospitality and tourism his whole working career, managing a 500-bed backpackers hostel in London before creating his own small budget hotels group.

The founder of Umi Digital, a design and technology agency solely working in hospitality and travel, Lowy is now CEO of full-service study abroad operator, Anglo Educational Services and The Residence Apartments, a collection of 75 luxury-serviced apartments in London. He is also Chairman of BETA (British Educational Travel Association), a board member of the Tourism Alliance, and Chairman of ASAP (Association of serviced apartment providers).

The new trustees will support and drive the work of the Trust, which has delivered millions of pounds worth of grants to support a wide array of educational and professional development projects within the hospitality industry, as well as charities, over the last 60 years.

Last year, almost £1.74million was awarded to those seeking funding to improve standards, education, and innovation.

The Savoy Educational Trust chair, Howard Field, said: “Individually Peter and Stephen each have extensive experience within hospitality, so collectively they will be a veritable force for the Board of Trustees. We are thrilled that they have joined us at such an exciting time for the trust and I and my fellow trustees are looking forward to working with them.”
