The Savoy announces new Hotel Manager

The Savoy, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, sees Russell Platt return to take on the role of Hotel
Manager

The Savoy is delighted to announce the appointment of Russell Platt as Hotel Manager. Russell will join the team in September from The Dorchester, where he is currently Executive Assistant Manager in charge of the Rooms Division.

The appointment marks Russell’s return to The Savoy; he was part of the reopening team in 2010 after the three year renovation programme. At that time he was Breakfast Manager of the River Restaurant and Thames Foyer. In the following years he moved on to roles at Claridge’s, where he was Director of Events and Groups and subsequently Director of Food and Beverage, then The Dorchester, first as Director of Food and Beverage before broadening his experience in the Rooms Division and his current role.

Russell says, “There is something really rather special about The Savoy that draws you back. Having been a part of the reopening team in 2010 I feel so proud and honoured to be returning as Hotel Manager. Leading the operations team of this unique property is such an exciting opportunity. The rich history of the hotel and the dedication of the team are inspiring, giving me a passion and energy to provide guests with exceptional and memorable experiences across this remarkable hotel.”

Russell was born and raised in Durban, South Africa, and his family moved to Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, when he was a teenager. He has long-standing links with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts; during his studies in hospitality management in Victoria he took on internships and summer jobs at three different North American Fairmont properties, before spending eight years in Vancouver with the Pan Pacific hotel group in a range of roles in the food and beverage team.

Managing Director and Regional Vice President of The Savoy, Franck Arnold, commented, “The breadth and depth of Russell’s experience are going to add huge value to our operations at The Savoy. He’s really colleague-focused, with a truly impressive track record of building engaged and high-performing teams. We are delighted to be welcoming him back!”
