Cumbrian Estate expands with new lodge accommodation and food offering

Blaithwaite Estate is expanding its offering for guests by adding two new woodland lodges,a hexicabin, a farm shop and cafe within its 250-acre grounds in Cumbria this spring. The new woodland lodges and hexicabin will provide guests with secluded hideaways on the Estate where they will be able to enjoy the beauty of the Cumbrian nature from their doorstep whilst benefiting from modern convenience. The cafe and farm shop, opening in May, will stock and serve a range of produce from neighbouring farms and suppliers to showcase the abundance of produce within the county. The new offerings to the Estate come after the recent addition of two stargazer lodges.

The two new woodland lodges, named Oakwood Lodge and Beechwood Lodge, will both be able to sleep four people making them perfect for families and small groups. Each lodge will have a contemporary open-plan living space and kitchen filled with natural light from the wide front-aspect French doors and windows, modern appliances and a dining area. A luxurious ensuite master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe will be accompanied by a bathroom with a rainfall showerhead. A spacious second bedroom will have twin single beds and will benefit from natural light through a large roof window. Soothing neutral tones throughout each lodge will be complemented with earthy accents including, dark wood panelling in the master bedroom, indoor plants and mustard textiles. Both lodges will be opening in April.

The hexicabin, named Cedar Cottage, will combine cottage cosiness with cabin charm making it perfect for romantic getaways. Built from cedar combined with wood from the Estate’s own woodlands, the bespoke designed, British built cabin will have a pitched, shingle roof and a small patio area. With the capacity to sleep two people, the inside will be bright and spacious with a high ceiling and modern country-style interiors complete with a warming log burner. The quirky self-contained cabin will have a plush double bed, free-standing bath, comfy seating, a shower room and a modern kitchen. The hexicabin will open in late May.

Both the woodland lodges and hexicabin, will be tucked away in private corners of the estate, each with its own hot tub and enclosed garden area. With access to the rest of the 250-acre Estate, guests can enjoy numerous walking trails around formal gardens and woodlands, as well as crazy golf, giant chess and dedicated play areas right from their doorstep. Blaithwaite also has onsite activities which will keep both adults and children entertained including bushcraft, outdoor laser tag, pioneering, orienteering and treasure hunts. Fully dog-friendly, guests are encouraged to bring along their four-legged friends with secure walking areas to exercise little legs.

As part of the Estate’s expansion, a cafe and farm shop will also be opening in the Spring. Open to both staying guests and day visitors, both venues will showcase the abundance of quality produce and ingredients from around Cumbria. The farm shop, which will be open from 9am until 4pm, will support local and independent suppliers from lesser-known areas of the county. It will stock a range of items including butchery (including BBQ packs), eggs, fresh milk and seasonal vegetables from surrounding farms, charcuterie from Stonehouse Smokery and cheese from Torpenhow Cheese alongside guest essentials and home-baked treats. An impressive selection of local beers and spirits will also be available including Tirril Brewery, The Tractor Shed Brewing Company, Hawkshead Brewery, The Lakes Distillery and Tipsy Filly.

The cafe, which will be open from 9am until 3pm, will use the local ingredients available to buy in the farm shop to create delicious, fresh and seasonal dishes. The relaxed menu will be full of wholesome, unfussy dishes which will showcase some of the area’s best ingredients including homemade breakfast bites, freshly baked pastries, afternoon bakes, and light lunches with seasonal soups and hearty sandwiches. The casual cafe with its wood-clad interiors will be rustic and homely, in keeping with its rural location and will welcome muddy boots and paws.
