NYX HOTEL LONDON HOLBORN – A DESIGN-LED EXPERIENCE

NYX HOTEL LONDON HOLBORN – A DESIGN-LED EXPERIENCE

An exploration of avant-garde colour and contrast comes to London with the UK’s first NYX Hotel London Holborn, opened on 17th May. With an investment of £12.6million, the hotel has been designed by hospitality interior specialists, Garuda Design, to deliver a luxurious lifestyle experience, that is connected with and reflects the vibrancy of the capital, and seeks to engage all the senses.

The hotel, named after the Greek goddess of the night, is a space designed to come to life at night and to be a hub for creative exploration, performance and exhibition.

Making a bold statement from the offset and demanding attention, renowned street artist Dan Kitchener, has covered the façade of the building with a colourful and eye-catching display that is part mural, part graffiti. Curated in partnership with Art Loves, bespoke modern art can also be found throughout the hotel – from the iconic neon-lit lips by Sarah Pope, to the abstract painted sculpture of a woman with a lampshade on her head by Jimmie Martin, visual energy radiates from the hotel.

Genres and styles clash beautifully throughout NYX Hotel London Holborn, with a sense of more is most definitely more. In the bar and restaurant, multi coloured terrazzo tiles add scale and colour, with brighter pink tones making the space pop. Art deco patterns, dark colours and deep hues run throughout, helping to create an otherworldly atmosphere, whilst the low lighting adds a sultry vibe. Vibrant multi coloured fabrics and acrylic printed tabletops provide a riot of colour and pattern, all held in place with a dramatically dark ceiling. Showcasing the importance of music, bespoke wallpaper created from the spines of old vinyl’s adorns some walls.

Whilst the public spaces are dynamic and energetic, the corridors leading through the hotel are dark and sensual, creating a sense of intrigue and excitement for what lies behind the 213 doors. The bedrooms and suites are playful, cool and colourful yet luxurious and comfortable. Oversized artworks contrast with mid-century furniture including leather headboards, teak sideboards and iconic retro Smeg fridges. The bathrooms are tiled in contrasting white and sapphire blue, with industrial Crittall-style showers, and neon slogans on the walls.

The Rena Spa reflects the dark and sultry design of the rest of the hotel, providing a dramatic space.  The 13-metre Greco-Roman indoor pool has been flexibly designed with a retractable floor, enabling it to transform into a stylish private events space and featuring colourful and eclectic art on the surrounding pillars.  Black and white tiles, neon signage and treatment rooms with white leather beds help create a vibe that’s sensual rather than clinical.

Suzanne Garuda, Principal Designer at Garuda Design said: “The NYX Hotel brand is the perfect addition to the vibrant city of London. Bringing a unique style and buzzing energy to the capital, this is one of the most exciting projects we have ever had the pleasure of developing and delivering.”
