Afternoon Tea Week at The Chester Grosvenor

Afternoon Tea Week at The Chester Grosvenor

Celebrate National Afternoon Tea Week in style at Cheshire’s foremost hotel, The Chester Grosvenor.

Taking place between August 14th and 21st, Afternoon Tea Week commemorates the quintessentially Great British tradition of relaxing with light refreshments and cups of Darjeeling in sophisticated surroundings. Cheshire’s foremost hotel, The Chester Grosvenor, has been serving the tiered tray of treats since 1882 and is renowned for offering the finest afternoon tea in Chester.

The concept of afternoon tea dates back to 1832 when Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, complained of experiencing a ‘sinking feeling’ during the late afternoon. She desired something light to eat to stave off her hunger pangs until dinner time, and so the afternoon tea tradition was born. Today, afternoon tea is synonymous with luxury, elegance and special occasions. Cheshire’s only 5* hotel, The Chester Grosvenor, has been serving the perfect afternoon tea for over a century to discerning visitors. Guests can expect glasses of Champagne*, handmade sandwiches on freshly baked bread, elaborate cakes and pastries and, of course, scones with clotted cream and jam.

The Chester Grosvenor have also devised a hearty ‘Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea’ menu which includes more ‘substantial’ options. Traditional finger sandwiches and delicate pastries have been replaced with succulent haddock doorstop sandwiches and baked pork and apple savoury.

General Manager of The Chester Grosvenor, Richard Grove, comments: “We pride ourselves on hosting the finest afternoon tea experience in Chester and we look forward to celebrating Afternoon Tea Week at the peak of holiday season, when visitors from home and away will be coming to The Arkle Bar and Lounge to enjoy a luxurious treat in the heart of the city centre.”

*When enjoying Champagne Afternoon Tea. Afternoon Tea at The Chester Grosvenor starts at £32 per person and is served from 12pm to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 12pm to 4pm Friday to Sunday.
