THE ICONIC TONGSAI BAY RESORT, KOH SAMUI, THAILAND, CELEBRATES ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Champagne corks will be popping on the Thai island of Koh Samui on the 9th July as The Tongsai Bay celebrates its 30th Anniversary!  The Tongsai Bay was the first five-star luxury hotel to be built on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand in 1987 and rapidly gained an enviable reputation as the most welcoming, friendly and luxurious hotel.  The hotel has since played host to numerous high-profile and celebrity guests and has evolved into the island’s finest destination for active travelers, families, wellness-minded guests, and those seeking an ecological paradise to relax and unwind. Throughout 2017, The Tongsai Bay will celebrate its 30th birthday through a series of special events, food and beverage promotions.

Executive Chef, Chef Eak, trawled through the culinary archives and created a commemorative 30th-anniversary menu. ‘A Taste of Yesteryear’ menu has been inspired by the classic menu served by The Tongsai Bay’s first chef and features a handpicked selection of dishes from the original menu, that was experienced by the first guests at The Tongsai Bay on the 9th July 1987.  In 2017, guests can enjoy the delights from the very first menu, which includes: Rice and Shrimp Crackers, served with a Coconut Milk Dip, Grilled Duck Breasts in a Tamarind Sauce and Pineapple with Kirsch.

Iron Balls Gin is meticulously crafted at A R. Sutton & Co Engineers micro-distillery in the heart of Bangkok. To commemorate the 30th-anniversary of the iconic Koh Samui hotel, Iron Balls Gin has crafted a limited edition-artisan spirit that is sold exclusively in The Tongsai Bay Gift Shop.  In addition, Iron Balls Gin’s mixologist Carson Quinn created 3 very special gin-based cocktails, which include: Cucumber and Bael Fruit Sour, Pomello and Roselle Fizz and the Tongsai Bay CoupéThe fresh-cut ingredients such as butterfly-pea, which enhance these delicious cocktails, come directly from The Tongsai Bay’s own Organic Garden.  The Iron Balls Gin cocktails complement the ‘Love at First Sight’ cocktail, an exclusive anniversary cocktail, which will be served throughout 2017 to celebrate how the late Khun Akorn Thanakorn, founder of the Tongsai Bay, felt when he saw the property for the first time.

‘A Taste of Yesteryear’ menu, as well as the specially created Iron Balls Gin cocktails, will be served at the exclusive ‘Celebration of Nature’ party held on the 8th July to celebrate The Tongsai Bay’s 30th anniversary.   Please see attached PDF which provides additional information regarding the forthcoming celebrations.

The opening of The Tongsai Bay raised Koh Samui’s profile as a tourism destination in the late 1980’s and throughout the 1990’s.  Since it was established in 1987, The Tongsai Bay continues to underscore its commitment to the environment.  Thanakorn Hoontrakul (a.k.a Gob), owner of The Tongsai Bay is developing and constantly reviewing environmental policies.
