To escape the expected supply chain crisis this winter, thousands of British are planning to turn their back on another compromised UK Christmas to spend the festive period overseas, say the leading catered ski chalet company, Ski Beat. The exodus is being fuelled by government changes to rules for returning UK travellers, coming into force on 24th October.
Ski Beat’s Sales & Marketing Director, Laura Hazell says “Particularly since reports of turkey shortages, warnings of gift shortages and empty supermarket shelves, we have seen an unprecedented surge in Christmas and Pre-Christmas bookings. In fact our snowy festive ski holidays have been so popular that many of our catered ski chalets are already booked up.”
The company says that numbers are being fuelled by new UK government regulations that enable returning travellers to take Rapid Lateral Flow tests in place of expensive PCRs, further opening up travel opportunities for vaccinated British holidaymakers. The change comes into force on 24th October 2021.
Laura continues “It is clear that many British people just do not want to risk another Christmas compromise. After last year’s travel restrictions, the pent up demand for travel is very evident, but even though festive holidays are in high demand, we also urge travellers to book with caution and in particular, check that their ski holiday is protected by the government backed ATOL scheme, as all of Ski Beat’s flight package holidays are.”
A continental Christmas does not have to mean losing out on British tradition, according to Ski Beat, who have already organised their mammoth Christmas shopping list of hundreds of crackers, nearly fifty Christmas trees, 400kg of turkey, 2046 mince pies, 15.2kg of cranberry sauce, 710 Christmas crackers and 59kg of Brussel sprouts.
Ski Beat will be serving a traditional British style Christmas dinner for hundreds of guests, in comfortable and homely hosted ski chalets in seven high altitude, snowy white resorts in the French Alps.
Laura Hazell added “A catered Christmas ski holiday also means that someone else can worry about decorating the Christmas tree, putting up the decorations, doing the shopping, food prep, cooking, serving and washing up. And all this, with picture perfect Christmas card snowy scenes on the doorstep”.
