Rome, October 22, 2019 – Elisabetta Fabri, President of Starhotels, has received a knighthood for the Order of Merit for Labour from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The honour is a sign of Elisabetta Fabri’s remarkable work as an entrepreneur, having brought Starhotels abroad, her moral and social values and her strong sense of responsibility.
“I am honoured and happy to receive this prestigious recognition,” commented Elisabetta Fabri. “I want to share it first and foremost with my collaborators who, with their daily efforts, contribute to the success of this company. I have always worked to uphold and valorize as best possible the Italian lifestyle and hospitality in the eyes of the world. I would like to thank those who have acknowledged my role in the promotion of our immense cultural heritage, as well as our contribution to the development of tourism in Italy.”
In 1992, Elisabetta Fabri made her first move as a business owner, founding Starhotels International and purchasing The Michelangelo in New York, whose replacement in the industry she personally oversaw.
Since 2000, the year she became CEO and Vice-President of Starhotels S.p.A., Elisabetta Fabri has dedicated much attention to repositioning the company, of which she became President eleven years later.
Under her leadership, Starhotels continues to grow abroad and modernize its properties. In 2005, the Castille in Paris was acquired by Starhotels; this was followed in 2014 by the company’s first two hotels in London. In 2016, Starhotels officially took its place in the echelons of luxury hospitality, acquiring four new properties in Italy – Hotel d’Inghilterra in Rome, Helvetia & Bristol in Florence, Grand Hotel Continental in Siena and Hotel Villa Michelangelo in Vicenza – and The Franklin in London.
With 29 hotels in the heart of the most beautiful cities in Italy and across the world, Starhotels is the only Italian hotel company that owns properties abroad: the Fabri family has created constant and ethical company growth over the last 40 years, coming to employ 1,000 individuals, 790 of whom in Italy, and becoming a market leader in Italian hospitality.
In 2018, Starhotels’ consolidated financial statement grew 5.4% compared to the previous year, reaching 208.5 million euro with an EBITDA of 55.7% (+11.7%) and net earnings of 12.3 million euro (+31.4). In the first eight months of 2019, revenue grew 4%.
