Nobu Hotel Marbella: A Design Haven
Nobu Hotel Marbella offers an alluring dose of smooth sophistication with just the right amount of local sensibility. Having doubled in size this year, the resort opened 40 new rooms and suites, artfully conceived by Jean Pierre Martel of M&P Archidesign Consulting. Leaning into local materials, room design is executed in a sleek and modern Japanese manner, the overall effect of which exudes an air of excitement the moment you step through the doors.
Marvellously minimalistic and chic, the sprawling rooms and suites at Nobu Hotel Marbella get it exactly right. With everything designed and created in Spain, the contemporary mix of ‘white-on-white’ décor, natural oak detailing and calming, neutral tones invite guests to wind down and relax during the day. When it comes to the evening, the expansive, open-plan spaces are designed to be sociable spaces, allowing for ‘winding up’, with the calming indoor space naturally flowing into a buzzy outdoor area that draws in fashionable locals from breakfast until the early hours with its Nobu sushi, plates to share, and potent drinks.
The signature Nobu combination of Eastern refinement and Western flair is instantly apparent. Emanating a sense of anticipation and possibility, every aspect of this design is carefully considered, all designed to evoke a particular feeling. The impressive, solid oak desk occupying reception has a chic and industrial feel, surrounded by a calming Elitis wall covering, adorned in trendy, thought provoking objects d’art.
One of the principle features of this resort’s eclectic design is the iconic adults only Nobu Pool. The pagoda-style cabana, sitting at the foot of the ‘Bali Green’ natural stone pool, both blends and contrasts perfectly with the Roman rooftops and white-washed backdrop of the surrounding resort. The perfect spot to up your ‘insta-game’, this serene haven for grown-ups and singular playground is an ideal place to take in the moment and contemplate what’s next.
The hotel’s signature Nobu restaurant is designed to be upscale, playful and high-energy. Offering a journey through the senses, the interior design transports the diner to a kind of modernised Japanese canteen, where wood and warm atmospheres play a leading role. The mix of indulgent cream leathers and rich wooden tones give this delectable destination a simultaneous feeling of warmth, intimacy and exhilaration. Flanked by two impressive floor-to-ceiling wine displays, this space represents Marbella for the stylish grown-up set – a place to be seen – and has in turn, become a magnet for food lovers, tastemakers and celebrities.
The adjacent Nobu Lounge is a stylish space with an international feel. Featuring design-led Andrew Martin furniture, wall art, mid-century vintage objects, and original artwork and posters, the lounge stimulates the senses with its imaginative aesthetics. Encouraging guests to relax and have a good time, Martel has made this space as authentic as possible by collecting each piece of décor personally.
Having already established himself in Marbella since the 1980’s, Martel’s extensive experience includes design work for Puente Romano, The Marbella Club and The Ritz Madrid. Martel’s aim for Nobu Hotel Marbella was to bring together style, elegance, comfort and an element of escapism from everyday life.
