ANDAZ LONDON LIVERPOOL STREET, EAST LONDON’S FIRST FIVE STAR HOTEL MARKS KEY MOMENT IN BRAND’S HISTORY
This year, East London’s first ever five-star hotel, the luxury lifestyle Andaz London Liverpool Street (https://londonliverpoolstreet.andaz.hyatt.com) celebrates its tenth anniversary. As the first Andaz hotel under the Hyatt umbrella to ever open, this is a key milestone for the Andaz brand and marks its development into a global brand, spanning ten countries, with sixteen hotels currently open.
Represented in world-class cities like London, Delhi, New York and Tokyo, Andaz celebrates local culture and the unique spirit of neighbourhoods. It immerses every guest in the authentic story of the area that the hotel is based in, allowing them to live like a local.
The word “Andaz” translates to “personal style” in Hindi and encapsulates the very essence of the brand’s driving philosophy: to celebrate, respect and cater to guests’ personal styles and preferences in an atmosphere that fully embraces its vibrant vicinity.
As the first Andaz hotel to open, Andaz London Liverpool Street has become an East London institution, a constant in the area’s fast changing landscape, pioneering the brand’s unique style by bringing the local area to life within the hotel. The site has been a hotel since 1884, becoming the first of the Andaz hotels in 2007 and the district’s first luxury offering, a trailblazer that defined the Andaz brand and helped lead the rise of the East End.
In 2017, it underwent a refurbishment of all its 267 guest rooms and suites with Conran and Partners, integrating East London into the unique designs. The new look captures the hotel’s history and heritage and reflects the hotel’s unique location as the gateway point between the traditionally refined City and the dramatically changing and vibrantly creative Shoreditch.
Following the success of Andaz London Liverpool Street, the brand has continued to expand worldwide with hotels across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and America. Whilst becoming global in scale, it and remains local in its perspective, keeping true to its original ethos, with personalised, unscripted service, which has seen the Andaz brand grow and develop its unique offering.
The brand is expecting further development in the future with the following new Andaz additions in the pipeline:
Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor
Making its mark in the Bavarian capital, Andaz Munich is located in the city’s cultural district known as Schwabinger Tor. It was once the bohemian heart of Munich, where writers, musicians and free spirits gathered; home to artists striving for freedom of speech and creative expression.
In addition to the hotel’s 221 guestrooms, 13 junior suites, 41 suites, and a presidential suite, guests are able to indulge in all-day dining, a lounge and rooftop bar, as well as an extensive fitness centre with spa and pool facilities. Andaz Munich at Schwabinger Tor will create a new destination for modern-day creative and innovative thinkers while embracing the soul of Munich.
The new Andaz Singapore takes inspiration from the dynamic neighbourhoods which surround the venue, incorporating subtle, locally-inspired decorative details, and reinterpreting them into fresh design elements.
To create a sense of discovery within the hotel, which is exemplary to exploring the streets of Singapore, the restaurants and bars will follow a strong market-to-table philosophy and utilise fresh, high-quality ingredients: organic, seasonal and locally or regionally-sourced wherever possible.
Located at the crossroads of the cultural districts of Kampong Glam, Bras Basah Bugis and Little India — and steeped in rich Indian and Malay heritage — Andaz Singapore will be a mere stroll away from a range of immersive, cultural activities.
Housing 342 contemporary guestrooms (including 26 suites) inspired by the hotel’s location, each of the rooms will feature warm russet, paprika, aubergine and mustard tones which are frequently found in Indian and Malay handicrafts, along with wood-effect tiling which will create a natural, earthy feel. As with the rest of the hotel, floor-to-ceiling windows flood the rooms with natural light and frame stunning views of the Singapore skyline, Marina Bay harbour, Bras Basah Bugis and Kampong Glam. Luxurious features such as spacious daybeds, plush carpeting and rainfall showers will be accompanied by whimsical touches, including an entrance doorbell housed in a bespoke post-box and shophouse style doors in bold mango yellow.
Andaz Vienna
Further expansion for the brand is expected to come with the launch of Andaz Am Belvedere in Vienna, which is due to open in 2019. To bring the Andaz concept to life in Vienna, the hotel will take inspiration from the city’s spectacular art and architecture, diverse cuisine, outstanding quality of life and irresistible charm.
Taking its cue from Prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the leading developers and art collectors of his time and the man behind the Belvedere Palace, Andaz Am Belvedere will feature contemporary local art and design that will immerse guests in the history of both Prince Eugene and the city of Vienna.
The hotel will be located in the new Quartier Belvedere, a highly sought-after part of the city that includes excellent shopping options, green spaces, cultural attractions and sports facilities. The breath-taking rooftop bar on the 16th floor that sits 60 meters above ground level, will offer superb views of the idyllic Schweizergarten and the entire Austrian capital. It will be a five-minute walk from the new Vienna Central Station and will have excellent links to both the public and private transport system. The Botanical Gardens and the Belvedere Palace can be reached in 10 minutes. St. Stephen’s Square can be reached in 15 minutes, and the Vienna International Airport can be reached in 20 minutes.
Otto Steenbeek, General Manager at Andaz London Liverpool Street says: “With the Andaz London Liverpool Street celebrating its tenth year, it not only demonstrates the individual success of this hotel but also that of the Andaz brand. Through constant innovation, Andaz London Liverpool Street has continued to develop what it means to be ‘Andaz’ and has been instrumental in the development of East London, through championing and reflecting this dynamic region of the capital.
“The new openings, and the launch of the first Andaz in India, signifies that as a brand Andaz has reached a defining level of maturity and that the concept created at the hotel ten years ago is still flourishing. We are delighted to be part of the brand’s next chapter and are excited to see what develops over the next ten years.”
