Grand Designs Live will return to NEC Birmingham from Wednesday 5th – Sunday 9th October 2022, hosted by TV presenter and design guru Kevin McCloud and featuring a compelling line-up of industry experts, TV personalities and design experts, including James Strawbridge, Kunle Barker, Max McMurdo, and Jess Grizzle across two theatre stages including the brand-new Interiors Stage.
Grand Designs Live is a must-visit for those looking to find information on and learn about the world of interiors, home design, self and custom build. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear from an array of industry experts at the Grand Designs Magazine Theatre and the Interiors Stage, where a fascinating line up of talks will take centre stage across each day of the show as well as seminars covering a broad range of home, interior, custom and self-build topics from extensions to sustainability in the building industry, and much more.
The Grand Designs Magazine Theatre in partnership with ABC+ Warranty, is an entertaining and informative platform where you can hear from Kevin McCloud, Kunle Barker, and captivating ‘Meet The Grand Designers’ talks on the triumphs and tribulations of households showcased on the current season of Grand Designs and The Streets. Maite and Carlos, who had ambitious plans to build a bold, Spanish inspired home; Iain and Jenny Shaillady who transformed their 150 year old bothy in Kinross; Craig and Leah who created a contemporary, timber-clad kit house will all be on stage giving an insight into their very own self build journeys; and John and Julia from The Street who spent the last 30 years trying to build their own home, but bad luck always stood in their way.
In association with The Tool Club, join TV personalities Max McMurdo and Jess Grizzle on Sunday 9th as they outline easy ways to build and begin your sustainable and more self-sufficient future. Also tackling self-sufficiency, James Strawbridge takes to the stage to talk about the steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint, living off the land, and simple lifestyle changes such as cutting back on plastic waste, growing vegetables, and avoiding food waste by preserving meat and fish or making jams and chutneys.
On Saturday 8th, Max joins forces with IKEA for a Cosy Homes Workshop focusing on the retailer’s Lagom sustainability programme. He will be offering inspiration for living sustainably with clever ideas for getting your home ready for the winter months, using textiles, and smart lighting to keep your thermostat down and have a more sustainable worry-free Christmas.
Also not to be missed, The Self-Build Simplified talks will take place throughout the show in partnership with The Federation of Master Builders. Resident experts and Grand Designers from the TV series will form a panel for dynamic Q&A sessions exploring the various aspects of their self-build projects and more.
The Energy Saving Trust will be hosting a Q&A on changing the way we heat our homes with the insights and analytics team on why we need to decarbonise heating systems in our homes, present options and solutions, practical guidance, and offering guidance on where to go for support.
New to Grand Designs Live NEC, The Interiors Stage, in partnership with The House of Upcycling, is the place to find a mix of upcycling workshops and demos, interior inspiration, makeovers, as well as talks on organised space and de-cluttering. For interior design advice, join Penny from Penny Ann Interiors as she discusses the importance of hiring an interior designer and the seven main principles to incorporate to achieve the perfect interior.
Taking place alongside Grand Designs Live and making its debut at the NEC, Green Living Live, in partnership with myenergi, also features its own theatre; the Sustainable Future Theatre and Advice Hub. Visitors will have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and advice first hand from inspirational experts on topics such as how to plan an eco-build or refit a house, advice on how to heat the home in a cost-effective way, how to source sustainable furnishings, as well as advice tailored to every project.
