Newhey Carpets, a leading British manufacturer and specialist designer of innovative, high performance and sustainable commercial carpets, recently manufactured over 1000 square metres of Colortec+ carpet for the opulent Tilal Liwa Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

The hotel is situated on the edge of the 600,000 square kilometre Rub Al Khali Desert, which is also referred to as the ‘Empty Quarter’; the largest sand desert in the world. Tilal Liwa was designed in traditional style with attractive marble floors throughout, however guest and servicing noise on the hard surfaces was a regular complaint leading to the decision to install carpets in all corridors. Newhey were introduced to Tilal Liwa after exhibiting at The Hotel Show Dubai in 2013, the brief was to create a luxurious design that would replicate the beautiful sands that border the hotel. Their design studio used 3 colours to create the textured effect and a border to compliment the design. The Tilal Liwa Hotel makes a feature of many fascinating Arabic traditions and the regions exotic culture.

Tilal Liwa refurbished the guestroom corridors in late 2014 specifying Newhey’s Colortec+ construction, a product which is tufted using computer yarn placement technology. The Colortec+ carpet features high quality 80% Wool 20% Nylon hank dyed pile yarns and is a cost effective, durable solution for guestroom corridors.

The lavish carpet designs, which were installed by Inter Décor Furnishings LLC – Dubai, were supplied with ‘evobac’. This secondary backing system, exclusively developed by Newhey, is made using 100% recycled plastic bottles, it also reduces wear on blades when cutting the carpet, has improved anti-fraying properties and guarantees against delamination.

The carpet designs flowed smoothly through the stylish guestroom corridors and added to the tranquillity of this stunning location enabling the hotel to become one of the most luxurious complexes in the UAE.
