The Iditarod dogsled race is an Arctic nightmare for dogs who are forced to pull heavy sleds for 1,000 miles in under two weeks through biting winds, blinding snowstorms, and subzero temperatures. Every year, hundreds of dogs are pulled out of the race because they’re ill, injured, or too exhausted to go on. More than 150 have died as a result of the Iditarod, most often from aspiration pneumonia caused by inhaling their own vomit. Millennium Hotels and Resorts is sponsoring this cruelty.
When not being forced to pull heavy sleds, dogs are chained to barrels or wooden boxes.
