Sagamore Spirit Wins One of Only Eight Master Medals Awarded at First UK Blind Tasting

Maryland distillery, Sagamore Spirit, has been awarded a Master medal for their Double Oak Rye at The Drinks Business & The Spirits Business Spring Blind Tasting 2021.

This is a triumphant result for the Maryland distillery who not only entered a UK tasting competition for the very first time but was the only distillery in the category to be awarded a Masters medal.

The Blind Tasting saw 106 entries from 50 different companies from across the world of wine and spirits come together for a collaborative blind tasting with judging divided into 19 separate competitions to ensure each spirits category is given the utmost attention by specialised judges including journalists, retail buyers, bartenders and educators.

“We’ve always believed in the excellence of our products, and it’s great to see our Maryland-style rye is making waves and changing palates” said Brian Treacy, president of Sagamore Spirit. “I couldn’t be more proud of our distillers and our entire team for making Double Oak the amazing whiskey it is, and for leading the Maryland-style rye revival in the USA and beyond” he adds.

The secret to this Double Oak Rye Whiskey from Sagamore Spirit is 18-months of extended aging time in toasted wave stave barrels, making this whiskey at least seven-years-old. Delightful notes of caramel, honey, hazelnut, and pecan explode on the palate.

“Being able to judge a medley of spirits was a real eye-opener to the breadth of products currently available to consumers.” says Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business magazine and chair of The SB Spring Blind Tasting.
