HUMPIT SPRINGS FOR THIRD LEEDS STORE

HUMPIT SPRINGS FOR THIRD LEEDS STORE

Humpit, the successful and rapidly expanding humus and pita bar, has chosen The Springs at Thorpe Park Leeds to open its 13th outlet.  The popular ‘clean eating’ business is set to open with its trademark trailer next Wednesday 12th February with a special introductory offer of a filled pitta for just £2.50.

Established as a street food pop-up in July 2014 the brand has quickly become the fastest growing plant-based food company in the UK and was recognised in 2015 as the best street food newcomer in the UK by Richard Branson’s Virgin Start-Up. With 12 existing stores from Edinburgh to London and the South Coast Humpit is now a national force with plans to open 30 more in the next five years. It works on the concept of testing locations with its trailer before becoming a permanent occupier.

The new offer at The Springs is expected to be popular among the 5,000 strong workforce at Thorpe Park Leeds, as well as visitors to the centre, as a new and healthy lunchtime offering.  It provides a totally vegan option that also appeals to non-vegans which account for nearly 90% of its business.  In a similar way to the hugely successful Gino D’Acampo’s My Restaurant at The Springs, Humpit will also provide a permanent discount scheme for those who work at Thorpe Park Leeds.

Jonathan Phillips, who set up Humpit with his father Simon Phillips, said,

“We are really excited to be opening our 13th store at The Springs.  It’s always great to be able to expand in our home city and whilst we already have two in Leeds, Thorpe Park Leeds has a unique offering in that it has a self-serving and fast emerging community crying out for fast and healthy lunch options.”

Serving a selection of fresh salads, hummus, falafel and drinks, Humpit will be open seven days a week at The Springs between the hours of 11.30am-3pm

Simon Marshall, Joint Chief Executive at Scarborough International Properties which is developing Thorpe Park Leeds with funding partner Legal & General, said,

“We’re delighted to welcome Humpit to The Springs at Thorpe Park Leeds. We are keen to offer a blend of street style operators alongside restaurants at the scheme, and indeed a mix of healthy and indulgent food choices. We look forward to supporting Humpit’s new venture with us and consider this to be a good example of how smaller operators can also serve the diverse clientele at Thorpe Park Leeds.  We will soon announce a number of further deals which will see The Springs nearly 90% occupied less than 15 months since launch.”

Thorpe Park Leeds is an established business location with 800,000 sq ft of development built and occupied to date, including 600,000 sq ft of offices. A unique £162 million investment deal with Legal & General Capital in 2015 secured a transformational 1.35 million sq ft mixed-use expansion, bringing forward exceptional new business opportunities to the Leeds City Region.

Phase two includes the 350,000 sq ft retail and leisure park as well as a further 900,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation, 300 new residential homes by Redrow and a 113-acre public park with sports facilities.

Phase two has already delivered the first section of the ‘East Leeds Orbital Road’, a key piece of infrastructure connecting north and east Leeds to Junction 46 of the M1. This road will unlock land for the construction of up to 7,000 new homes in the East Leeds area, land that is either already allocated in the Local Plan or which is ‘brownfield’ land.

The award-winning development has dedicated access to Junction 46 of the M1 and has been chosen for the new railway station, ‘East Leeds Parkway’ and associated Park and Ride, connecting Thorpe Park Leeds directly to Leeds city centre in eight minutes. This forms part of a £270 million infrastructure investment into Leeds by the Department of Transport.
