Help give back with Capella socially conscious initiatives
(London, October 2019) – Starting from December 2019 Capella Hotels and Resorts renews its commitment to socially conscious travel and charitable endeavours, announcing a series of new community focused initiatives at their properties in Singapore, Ubud, Shanghai, Sanya and Düsseldorf. With altruism becoming more linked to the growing wave of conscious travellers, Capella’s new initiatives are designed to help guests who are looking to make a difference in the destinations they visit.
Capella Hotels and Resorts understands that the true spirit of hospitality extends far beyond their property walls, which is why this type of engagement is so integral to their brand identity. Due to this, the hospitality brand will be introducing ‘Our Community Promise,’ which will see their collection of hotel colleagues, serve as mentors to the local youth in supporting school initiatives and helping to build a strong sense of community for a sustainable future.
The community initiatives at each property include:
Capella Ubud, Bali
The tented camp retreat Capella Ubud, Bali has pledged to donate 1% of the revenue generated from all online bookings (from 1st – 31st December 2019) to Trash Hero Indonesia. Trash Hero Indonesia is part of a national chapter of Trash Hero World, a global voluntary movement that is made up of non-profit, community-based organisations with the mission to bring communities together to clean the environment.
The proceeds of promotion will be utilised to support the Trash Hero Kids programme, the Learning Centre and the upcoming publication of the kids Book, intended to educate the younger generation on waste management and sustainable practises.
Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li
Throughout December, Capella Shanghai is working with World of Art Brut Culture, a local organisation that provides free art development courses for those with intellectual and mental disabilities. Through this partnership, children from surrounding neighbourhoods will be invited to the property to create Christmas tree ornamental cards with their wishes. These will be used to decorate the Capella Shanghai Christmas tree, and hotel guests will be invited to make donations to help bring hope.
The hotel also has initiatives that include upcycling used soap from guest rooms to produce exclusive hand-crafted Capella branded soaps, which are then delivered to a nearby retirement home. To help the elder community further the hotel is launching a new voluntary care movement involving the property’s engineering team doing repair work for local retirement homes.
Capella Breidenbacher Hof, Düsseldorf
Capella Breidenbacher Hof, Düsseldorf is supporting local charity, KIDsmiling, who work to offer meaningful experiences to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Ahead of the Christmas season, Capella Breidenbacher Hof, Düsseldorf will regularly host several children for a cooking class with Chef Philipp Ferber in the hotel kitchen. At the end of the session, each child will receive an apron, wooden spoon, and recipe card to help them promote healthy living at home.
Capella Sanya
Capella Sanya, the beach resort in China, is supporting the Qiongzhong Women’s Football Team – an amateur club formed mainly of girls from the Li minority (a poverty-stricken area in Hainin). Since its formation 13 years ago, the club has gone on to train national level athletes and 24 of the players have been admitted to universities. Capella Sanya is organising a charity beach football match to raise money, and guests can show support by purchasing match tickets. All the funds raised will be donated to the football team training fund. The Capella Sanya resort team will encourage sport to develop a collaborative and thriving spirit.
In an effort to support students at local Chiling Primary School (located in the small fishing village of Yingzhou town only 6 km from Capella Sanya) the hotel is also asking young guests to donate a book to Capella Library as pupils at the school lack reference books for their age. All the books donated will be given to the students who will also be specially invited to the hotel to join the resort kid’s programme where they can instigate exchange for cultural enrichment with kids their own age from all over the world.
Capella Singapore
On October 11, 2019, the island sanctuary hosted a gala dinner in partnership with the World-Wide Fund for Nature Singapore (WWF-Singapore) to raise funds for the non-profit’s Plastic ACTion (PACT) programme. The gala raised around $115,000. Started by WWF-Singapore, PACT is a voluntary business initiative to eliminate plastic pollution in nature, and assists businesses to curb their own plastic waste. Understanding how the hospitality industry contributes to the plastic problem, Capella Hotels & Resorts found this to be a natural partnership, as the brand seeks to support responsible businesses committed to future generations.
