The Village Pub, in the honey-stoned heart of Barnsley, is delighted to unveil a fresh new look in its six boutique bedrooms, strengthening its position at the forefront of the ‘posh pub with rooms’ trend. A creative collaboration between The Calcot Collection’s lead interior designer Nicky Farquhar, and Caroline Todhunter, the Village Pub’s bedrooms have been enhanced with pops of colour and contemporary touches, whilst retaining the character and charm of a quintessential Cotswolds experience.
Certain hallmarks feature within all six bedrooms – including the iconic ‘beehive’ mini bar found across The Calcot Collection, retro Roberts radios, Pooky angle-poised lamps, bamboo desk-side chairs, lambswool rugs from Scottish brand ‘Moon’, chunky wooden oval mirrors and quirky coat-hooks (either with a ‘birds-on-a-branch’ or curlicue design) – creating a signature sense of style. Whilst each bedroom also benefits from individual touches, such as wallpaper with a dragonfly motif by Jennifer Shorto, distinctive headboards created with Lewis & Wood fabrics in smokey-blues, sage, coffee and coral colours and an end of bed stool by Rowen & Wren.
This is the second time that Nicky and Caroline have worked closely together on a Calcot Collection project, having teamed up last spring to breathe new life into the six rooms in The Stables and The Secret Garden Suite at the 18-bedroom Barnsley House hotel, found just over the road from the pub.
As well as experiencing the fresh new look at The Village Pub, guests can make the most of the seasonally inspired cuisine – hearty, gutsy, plucky and really very good fun to eat – found downstairs in the pub and restaurant or when the sun shines, al fresco in the courtyard. Guests can expect a locally sourced menu with traditional butcher’s cuts picked from Paddock Farm (just at the bottom of the road), bacon jam stewed all day, top of the crop veg from Barnsley’s plot, ridiculously chunky chips and chefs favourite, home-rolled quail and black pudding scotch eggs.
With fantastic walks and rolling countryside right on its doorstep, as well as Barnsley House’s beautiful gardens designed by Rosemary Verey, The Village Pub is perfectly placed for an outdoors escape. Whilst to relax and unwind, treatments can be booked at the Barnsley House Spa, reached down a meandering garden path, which winds past the hotel’s very own cinema with weekly screenings or available for exclusive hire.
Bedroom rates for ‘Smart Rooms’ start from £109 with ‘Even Smarter Rooms’ from £129. Room rates are per room per night and include VAT and Farmhouse English Breakfast.
