Ambleside based boutique B&B, Nanny Brow, has held a Christmas shindig for the village’s ‘Evergreen Club’, a social club for the over 50’s. It’s the first time that Nanny Brow has hosted the association for a complimentary Christmas lunch, with more than 31 members attending last week’s festivities. This is set to become an annual event.
Attendees were treated to a slap-up meal including home-made ‘pigs in blanket surprises’, followed by Nanny Brow’s legendary cakes, lemon drizzle, bara brith, shortbreads and mince pies, washed down by red wine and plenty of festive cheer! Even Santa Clause put in a surprise appearance at the end of the afternoon, handing out Christmas cards and presents to all and Christmas carols were led by one of the group members, Ron.
A charity auction was also held, with pieces of Bara Brith and lemon drizzle cake auctioned off to the highest bidder. More than £90 was raised for Ambleside and Langdale Mountain Rescue, Nanny Brow’s chosen local charity.
The Evergreen Club, which meets each Wednesday afternoon at Ambleside Parish Church, has been in existence for eight years and was founded by Ambleside based Betty Potts and Jane Gomersall. The organisation was formed to offer a means of meeting up for the town’s older community and is entirely voluntary funded. It organises talks, trips and a variety of activities for its members.
“We were delighted to welcome members of the Evergreen Club to Nanny Brow for an afternoon of socialising and celebration.” added Nanny Brow owner, Sue Robinson. “We place particular importance on our strong community links and will continue to support local organisations where we can. The club members had a wonderful time and with money raised for a good cause, there was plenty of Christmas cheer!”
