Team St Peter's Brewery Sweeps the Board In Beer 'Olympics'

Channelling Team GB’s success in Rio, St Peter’s Brewery is toasting its own gold, silver and bronze medal success after picking up five prestigious medals in the International Beer Challenge and winning three Country Awards in the World Beer Awards.

The craft brewery, based in Suffolk, was named Country Winner in the Brown Ale category at the World Beer Awards for its St Peter’s Dirty Tackle, Mild Country Winner for the St Peter’s Crafted Classic Mild and Stout Country Winner for its Cream Stout.

It also picked up two silver medals for its Cream Stout and brand new Black IPA, as well as three bronze medals for its Organic Ale, Dark G-Free and one for Black IPA’s design and packaging at the International Beer Challenge.

For 20 years the International Beer Challenge has rewarded and promoted excellent beers from around the globe. Entries are received from no fewer than 30 countries and judges include some of the shrewdest beer tasters in the land – retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts, making a medal a true achievement for any brewer.

The World Beer Awards are equally hard-fought, with over 1500 beers entered from more than 67 countries worldwide, meaning that winning a ‘Country’s Best’ is quite an achievement.

As a small craft brewery, winning such a clutch of medals on the world stage is testament to the dedication of the St Peter’s brewing team.

“We’re very proud to have received so many awards at this year’s International Beer Challenge and to be named Country Winners in two categories at the World Beer Awards,” says Steve Magnall, CEO at St Peter’s Brewery. “Our team is dedicated to brewing excellence so having our beers judged to be among the best in the world by experts in the field makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

St. Peter’s Brewery is based at St. Peter South Elmham, near Bungay in Suffolk. The brewery itself was built in 1996 and is housed in an attractive range of traditional former agricultural buildings adjacent to St. Peter’s Hall.
Siting the brewery at St. Peter’s was ideal because of the excellent water quality from its own deep bore-hole. Locally malted barley is used, together with Kentish hops, to produce a range of classical English cask-conditioned ales and superb bottled beers.
St Peter’s brews ‘traditional’ beers (bitters, mild etc.), as well as some more unusual beers such as honey porter and fruit beer.
