Pub Beer Sales See 221% Surge During Second Half of Slovakia Match

Figures give Landlords an Insight into what to Expect in the Knockout Stages

The national team may not have hit the net against Slovakia but pubs did score with their takings on Monday, with beer sales for the day up 26% across England compared to an average Monday in June 2015.

The results come from a snapshot poll of 500 pubs across England and Wales from retail tech start-up, EposNow.com.

From 9AM to 6.30PM beer revenues were actually 15% below last year’s average. Yet, this was more than compensated for by sales during and after the match. These showed a 122% increase on the norm in the half-hour leading up to the 8PM kick-off, and then peaked at a 221% rise on the average in the 30 minutes after 9PM during the second half of the match.

Jacyn Heavens, founder of EposNow.com, said: “Despite the uneven performances on the field, these figures provide further compelling evidence that England’s involvement in Euro 2016 was always going to be a real money-spinner for pubs and bars across the country.”

“We can only see the surge in buying continuing to ramp-up,” he continued, “as England looks ahead to the knockout stages next week and the prospect of extra time and penalties loom to keep punters in the pub for even longer!”
