Carlton Hotel Collection has announced that it is open its first property in Edinburgh.
The new hotel will be a partnership between the city council’s development company EDI Group and the hotel company, and will see the creation of a 98-bedroom boutique hotel on Market Street in the Old Town. Part of the site opposite the side entrance to Waverley Station has been vacant since the 1960s, with the adjacent 1930’s warehouse building most often used as a temporary garage.
The four-star hotel development will see the empty warehouse demolished and is expected to cost around £15m. The project is due for completion in September 2017 and is the first venture in Edinburgh for the European operator. Alfred Bree, managing director of Carlton Hotel Collection, said: “We are proud to open the luxurious lifestyle hotel at this magnificent location in Edinburgh. The group’s long-term strategy is to grow our portfolio of unique hotels in key cities, and Edinburgh has been on our wish list for a long time. Together with our international awarded interior designers we will create a new hotspot for the modern conscious traveller, inspired by the city’s cultural and historical elements.”
