Heritage British design brand Morris & Co. has opened the home emporium; an exclusive shopping experience to showcase its exquisitely crafted collection of fabrics, wallpapers, paint, and homewares within one of London’s most iconic department stores; Harrods.
Officially opening on 22nd April, the shop celebrates Morris & Co.’s history and the legacy of renowned Pre-Raphaelite artist and printmaker William Morris, whose creative intuition pervades throughout all Morris & Co. designs.
Harrods, one of the world’s most exclusive department stores, was a clear choice for Morris & Co. to house its first shop-in-shop experience. With a comparable British heritage, founded only 30 years apart in the 19th century, these two legendary institutions have each played a significant role in the histories of British design and retail.
In addition to its range of wallpapers, fabrics, paint and cushions, the home emporium will house several of Morris & Co.’s homeware ranges; from Path to Paisley jackets created from Morris & Co. fabric cutoffs to an exclusive forthcoming collaboration with lighting masters Pooky. Each partnership plays a proud part in the Morris & Co. story, building on its heritage with inventive reimaginations of Morris & Co. classics and upholding the impeccable standard which has defined the brand since its inception.
The opening of the home emporium coincides with a bumper year for Morris & Co.; the brand has recently launched its inaugural paint collection, comprising 40 unique shades inspired by Morris’s life, highlighted by names such as ‘Inky Fingers’, ‘The Red House’ and ‘Sussex Rush’. Last month, Morris & Co. unveiled its second collaboration with renowned architect Ben Pentreath; ‘Cornubia’ celebrates Pentreath’s Cornish roots, fusing classic William Morris designs in a vibrant palette of greens, yellows, oranges, and browns as a spring/summer continuation of the original autumn/winter collection. This year, Morris & Co. will also take centre stage at the legendary RHS Chelsea Flower Show, hosting one of the Main Avenue show gardens during the world-famous event in May.
A haven for arts and crafts lovers, Morris & Co. celebrates true British craftmanship, and has become famous for popular prints such as Strawberry Thief and Willow Boughs which have become cult favourites amongst lovers of art and design.
Lisa Montague, CEO of Sanderson Design Group, commented: “We are ecstatic to officially open the Morris & Co. home emporium at Harrods; 2022 is an incredibly exciting year for the brand with several launches and events taking place and the home emporium plays a huge part in sharing the Morris & Co. story. Morris & Co. is a true representation of the finest in craftmanship and design, something that is reflected in its new home at Harrods. The iconic British institution is known for creating a truly luxurious and memorable shopping experience for customers, and the home emporium will help bring William Morris’s vision for the brand to life through an experiential retail destination. We are delighted to be opening the home emporium this spring and to showcasing new and existing product ranges to Harrods shoppers in the months and years to come.”
