Hotels in York, Edinburgh and Liverpool have made it into the top 50 of hotel comparison website Trivago’s Reputation Ranking 2015.
York, Edinburgh and Liverpool were ranked 35th, 45th and 48th respectively, Manchester was ranked 87th and Birmingham was 96th. London failed to make the list at all.
The list of 100 cities, which is published at the beginning of each year, ranks global destinations according to the reputation of their hotels.
Each destination is given an index, which is based on over 140 million hotel reviews and ratings aggregated from over 200 booking sites worldwide. Only hotels with at least 60 reviews and cities with at least 130 hotels are included.
The top-rated city was Sanya in China, with an index rating of 86.94%, where the average price per night for a standard double room during 2014 was £86.
In second place was Hanoi in Vietnam (84.76%) where the average price per night was just £39, while Sorrento in Italy came in at third place with an average price of £122.
Trivago said that hotels in York were praised for their character, comfortable rooms, good food and excellent service. Guests in Edinburgh praised hotels for their location and spacious rooms, while hotels in Liverpool were praised for their atmosphere and attractive interiors.
