Enjoy a traditional Swiss Christmas this festive season with Geneva Tourism

With travel restrictions lifting and winter well and truly on the horizon, head to Europe’s leading city break Geneva, for the perfect festive escape.

Located in Geneva’s most beautiful English gardens, the Jardin Anglais, explore the enchanting Christmas markets between 18 November and 26 December. The gardens will transform into the magical Noel au Jardin market which is set to the backdrop of the dazzling Lake Geneva and framed by the iconic Jet D’Eau and snow-capped Alps. Spend time leisurely strolling through the market chalets, which bring together the best artisans, designers, and creators to provide a range of unique gifts and trinkets to spoil your loved ones back home.

For foodies, look no further than the famous Fondue Chalet, which has returned for another year to provide the much-loved Swiss staple in a charming all-wooden chalet. If fondue doesn’t fill you, the market also hosts over 30 restauranteurs, serving everything from street food to heart-warming raclette, as well as the opportunity to experience the delicious seasonal dishes. As the night draws in, head to the Christmas Pub for a steaming cup of mulled wine and spend the evening drinking and laughing under the warm garlands of light with loved ones. For those seeking a little more excitement, the Pub also hosts a DJ evening every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which is guaranteed to get the Christmas party started.

Christmas is to be celebrated with the whole family, and the Noel au Jardin brings alive the magic of Christmas for little ones too. Whether it’s taking a spin on the old-fashioned carousel – which proves to be a thrilling hit year on year – or exploring the Children’s Pavilion, families can enjoy activities such as games, crafts, Christmas tree decorations, storytelling and face painting.

Returning for this season’s winter celebrations in January 2022 is the acclaimed Lux Festival, an open-air festival of lights which illuminates the lakeside town. Combining modernity and tradition as well as technical and artistic innovation, Geneva Lux illuminates the city with original works of art by artists from Switzerland and abroad, presenting the city’s heritage in a new light.
