Peebles, XX November 2019: Following a recent AA inspection, Cringletie House has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes and is one of only two restaurants in the Scottish Borders with this accolade.
The AA Rosette scheme recognises excellence within the restaurant industry and to receive this recognition is a huge achievement. It is estimated by the AA that across the UK, only 10% of restaurants are of a standard which is worthy of 1 rosette and above. To achieve two rosettes, a restaurant needs to achieve higher standards and better consistency. A greater precision is apparent in the cooking, and there is obvious attention in the selection of quality ingredients.
Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty near Peebles in the Scottish Borders, just 30 minutes south of Edinburgh, Cringletie House is a 15-bedroom hotel, set in 28-acre country estate, which includes a historic walled garden and woodland with nature trails.
Head chef, Iain Gourlay joined the hotel in July 2018 and has totally transformed the restaurant menus, showcasing the best of Scottish produce served with a twist. The restaurant has recently unveiled a new Sunday lunch menu with the local Tweed Valley beef receiving great acclaim.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Iain has also worked at the five star Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa & Island, the 3AA Rosette Rowhill Grange Hotel and at the 2AA Rosette and Michelin-listed Livingston’s Restaurant in Linlithgow.
Iain commented, “I am absolutely delighted with the award of 2 AA Rosettes. It’s an achievement for the whole team, both the kitchen and front of house and a testament to their hard work. I’d also like to thank Bill and Ann Cross for their support since purchasing the hotel earlier in the year.”
Cringletie House was purchased by Cross Hotels in February 2019. There has been significant investment in staff training, the estate and property, with further investment planned for 2020.

In October 2019, Cringletie House beat off tough competition to be awarded Hotel Dining Experience of the Year at the Hotel Awards Scotland.
