Want to really get to know Hamburg? Then you need to use all your senses. The Hamburg Convention Bureau team brought to life the celebrated maritime city for planners from across the UK as part of a German Christmas Roadshow in conjunction with the Munich Convention Bureau and Moulden Marketing. The London event, held at Simpsons in the Strand, showcased Hamburg and Munich’s unique charms and Christmas traditions.

The 30 invited planners – which included professionals from CL Venues, Activate Events, The Alzheimer‘s Society and The Association Resources Company – were challenged to discover each city through smell, touch, sight, taste and hearing. This included tasting candied Christmas almonds, smelling black pepper from Hamburg’s historic warehouse district and tuning into the sounds of the maritime city’s busy port.

Festive challenge hits the sweet spot

A ‘German Christmas Gingerbread Challenge’ followed with attendees split into teams and challenged to create the best decorated German gingerbread house. The event ended with a raffle awarding prizes from Hamburg’s partners – Scandic Hamburg Emporio and Grand Elysée Hamburg and Munich’s partners – Ruby Hotels and Weichlein Tours + Incentives.

One of the attendees, Silke Klassen, Training Manager for the World Nuclear University, explains: “This event has really brought to life the two cities and their distinctive festive traditions. I now know the many options for holding an event in these two great locations.”

Katherine Eden Haig, owner of The Association Resource Company, adds: “I know and love the city of Hamburg – and this evening has shown the many ways in which the city can delight delegates during the run up to Christmas.”

The German Christmas Roadshow is part of a UK Sales Roadshow spanning from the north west to the south east of England.
