Hotel will be the first in Solihull to partner with Solihull Council to support its Urban Forestry Strategy.

London,12th November 2019 – Today, voco® St. John’s Solihull announced a partnership with Solihull Council to support its ‘Urban Forestry’ strategy. As part of the partnership, Malvern Park in Solihull town centre will see the introduction of an orchard in late November – coinciding with National Tree Week (23rd November – 1st December). The orchard will consist of cherry, apple, pear trees and will be accessible to the public all year round.

To celebrate the launch, a community tree planting day will be hosted on Wednesday 27th November, marking the completion of the orchard. Between 11am-1pm, Solihull residents, local school children, and anyone passionate about protecting the town’s green canopy, are invited and encouraged to pay a visit to Malvern Park. Following the completion of the orchard, voco® St. John’s Solihull will thank everyone who took part in the initiative with drinks and cakes at the hotel, starting from 1.30pm.

voco™ is committed to delivering quality and sustainability at the same time; from reducing single-use plastics with glass water bottles replacing plastic, aerated shower heads reducing water usage and moving away from miniature bathroom amenities, to featuring high-quality bedding made from environmentally friendly materials in its rooms. With sustainability at the core of the brand, voco® St. John’s Solihull wanted to work with the council to help protect the green canopy in Solihull.

The UK’s second voco™ property, which reopened its doors following a major refurbishment in February 2019, has 180 rooms, an indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym facilities, a restaurant and bar, business centre and 13 meeting spaces. By December 2019, the hotel’s 21-bedroom extension is due for completion. The hotel promises guests a unique experience, brought to life through a bold, distinctive identity, informal service style and thoughtful touches along the guest journey, such as cosy beds and bedding, rejuvenating aerated showers and vibrant and sociable bar and lounge spaces.

Jane Bowler, General Manager, voco® St. John’s Solihull said: “Trees characterise and make Solihull’s landscape more liveable and resilient to extreme weather. As part of our commitment to sustainability and support of the local community, we are very excited to be partnering with the council and bringing the orchard to the people of Solihull.”
