Luxury four-star Surrey hotel welcomes new Head Chef to the team

The Oak Room at Barnett Hill has appointed a new Head Chef to continue to drive the menu forward and lead the hotel and restaurant toward success.

David James joins the team during a period of high growth for the restaurant and the Alexander Hotel collection as a whole. His expertise and refreshing ideas are set to shake up the menu, offering an unrivalled experience for all dining guests.

The decade of experience that David brings with him will inject new life into The Oak Room menu, which is set to include local a range of local produce, classic flavours, and a perfect balance between taste and texture.

David said: “I am absolutely delighted to be part of The Oak Room team. My vision for the restaurant is to serve contemporary food in a relaxed environment, using local produce that is available on our doorstep. I will ensure myself and my team spend time to carefully create dishes that deliver on flavour, without overcomplicating the experience. I also plan to use classical flavours paired down with modern cooking techniques for an understated and relaxed experience for our guests.”

David joined The Oak Room at the beginning of March and has spent the past six weeks assessing suppliers and carefully selecting the best Surrey ingredients for the new menus.

David added: “Now that I have found my feet within the role I will be starting to implement my new menus in the restaurant. Luckily for me, spring is one of my favourite seasons in the kitchen because there is such an array of fresh vibrant colours and flavours available to us. With the high quality of the ingredients we use, they just need to be treated with love to simply produce amazing, memorable dishes.”

Prior to joining The Oak Room, David worked across both the corporate and private sectors, including one of England’s top football stadiums.
