Crieff Hydro spreads its (kitchen) wares to help the homeless

Crieff Hydro found itself spreading its kitchen wares recently in a bid to help the homeless, as it donated a bundle of utensils to a cooking project with a difference.

Churches Action for the Homeless (CATH), a charity in Perth, wrote to the award-winning Perthshire resort asking for donations for a series of cooking and baking sessions it was holding to develop homeless people’s life skills. Crieff Hydro, which runs six restaurants, a main kitchen and satellite kitchens, and has a brigade of 45 chefs, wasted no time in gathering gently used spoons, chopping boards, tin openers, vegetable peelers, sieves, measuring jugs, mashers, ladles and baking trays for the cause. As part of the donation, it also ordered three pallets of brand new equipment.

CATH said it was “overwhelmed” with the donation. Volunteer Ron Hogg said:
“It really was like Christmas come early for us and our participants, and it meant was could hold valuable cooking and baking workshops. Thanks to the generosity of Crieff Hydro, we are able to pass on important life skills to homeless people in the Perth area so that they can be self-sufficient.”

Sarah Nicolson, spokesperson for Crieff Hydro, said:
“We were delighted to help with CATH’s request and to boost a project that does so much good for the local community. It’s great to see organisations like this making a difference to the homeless, and our kitchen staff were glad to be able to do their bit through this donation of kitchen wares.”
